Episode 1.
The Korean drama "Queenmaker" on Netflix tells the story of Do-Hee, the head of the strategic planning department at Eunsung Group, who is known as the "fixer" and solves problems for the Eunsung Group owner's family. When footage of Eun Chae-Ryoung, the second daughter of the Eunsung Group CEO and director general at Eunsung Department Store, verbally and physically abusing her employees is leaked and causes controversy, Do-Hee creates an issue that captures public attention.
In no time, she seizes control of the media and manipulates the situation to quiet the public criticism of Eunsung Group. Do-Hee is an indispensable presence at Eunsung Group with her outstanding skills, but the owner's family does not treat her as well as her abilities deserve. Although she always brings difficult problems to solve, they only express formal gratitude and treat her like a regular worker.
In the first episode of "Queenmaker" on Netflix, Son Young-sim, the CEO of Eunsung Group, plans to push out the Seoul mayor who she dislikes and put her son-in-law, Jae-min, in as the new mayor. Do-Hee is tasked with bringing down the current mayor and getting Jae-min into the position. But Do-Hee faces an unexpected incident at Eunsung Department Store.
The human rights lawyer Oh Kyung-Sook is leading a protest on behalf of 500 workers who were unfairly fired from Eunsung Department Store, and many other workers join the demonstration, causing the situation to escalate.
Amidst her busy schedule, Do-Hee visits Kyung-Sook to propose that she can give money and political support to Kyung-Sook in exchange for stopping the protest. However, Kyung-Sook is not swayed by her offer and firmly refuses it.
Meanwhile, Jae-min, who was aiming to become the next Seoul mayor and Son Young-sim's son-in-law, called Do-Hee in the middle of the night. He claims that his secretary, I-Seul, had seduced him and falsely accused him of sexual assault after he rejected her advances. He insists that it was all a scheme by I-Seul.
In the end, Do-Hee went to see I-Seul in person. At first, she pretended to empathize with what I-Seul had gone through, but soon changed her attitude and threatened her to resign and leave the company by revealing manipulated evidence and I-Seul's past as a bar girl.
Do-Hee thought she had handled the situation well, but witnessed I-Seul committing suicide right in front of her. And in the hand of the deceased I-Seul, Jae-min's cuff button was held, implying that Jae-min's story was false and that I-Seul was a victim of sexual assault, ending the first episode of Queenmaker.
