J-Hope, a member of the K-pop supergroup BTS, will commence his military service on Tuesday. He will become the second member of the group to do so, with Jin being the first, who began his service in December. According to sources in the music industry, J-Hope will undergo five weeks of basic training at an army boot camp in Gangwon Province before beginning his active duty. In South Korea, all able-bodied men are required to serve in the military for around two years. The group's agency, BigHit Music, has not disclosed the date and location of his enlistment.

J-Hope shared a message with fans on the Hybe's Weverse fan community platform on Monday night, along with a picture of himself giving a salute with a buzz cut. He addressed the band's global fandom by name, writing, "I love you all. ARMY, I will return safely."

On April 1, the agency posted a notice on the platform, informing fans that J-Hope will fulfill his mandatory service as an active-duty soldier in the Army, but there will be no ceremony for fans on the day of his entry. The agency urged fans to refrain from finding the site to prevent safety issues that could result from congestion.

J-Hope hosted his last live stream on Weverse on Friday to bid farewell to his fans. He assured them that he would return safely and said, "Don't worry too much because I'll come back safely (from the military)." He also shared his feelings about his impending service, saying, "I had the feeling of 'what am I gonna do?' a week ago, but now I'm so fine that I'm even wondering if it's okay to feel this way."

As an Hwagwan Order of Cultural Merit awardee, J-Hope can prolong his draft until the age of 30. However, Big Hit Music announced in October that all seven members of BTS would fulfill their mandatory military service. The septet has been on an official group break since June 2022 to focus on making solo careers. They plan to make a full-group return around 2025 when all the bandmates are expected to have completed their duties.

J-Hope debuted as a rapper of BTS in 2013. In July 2022, he officially began his career as a solo musician with his first album "Jack In the Box," and in March, he released his single "On the Street."
